we're told it was an intense situation when firefighters got here. the house was fully engulfed in flames. you had family members trying to rush back into the home. unfortunately they didn't get them in time. but again we're told there were five victims altogether who died in the house fire. the 55-year-old grandmother, her four grandchildren. the child's ages range from 1- year-old to 7 years old. the oldest went to the elementary school. one thing that the fire chief wanted to emphasize. they weren't sure if there were working fire alarms in the home and he just wanted to put out a reminder to everyone if you do not have a working smoke detector in your house, the fire department will provide a free one. firefighters will come out and install it. so please shake sure you check on that. but again, very sad situation. emotional family members about two dozen of them, family members tell us they're very close-knit and they all rushed out here when they heard about the fire. again a 55-year-old woman, the grandmother who died in the

fire and her four grandchildren, ages 1 to 7 years old. we're live in baltimore, linda so, abc2 news. abc2 news linda so we'll check in with you later. right now hope is running out. this in the search for a young girl and charlie has the overfight developments out of colorado. what can you tell us? >> megan, 10-year-old jessica ridgeway disappeared last friday doing something thousands of kids do every morning. she was walking to school. since then the search has turned up nothing until late last night where police found a body near the town of afterhave da just a few miles from where the girl went missing. this morning investigators have yet to identify the body. but three sources have told abc2 news the investigators have reason to believe this is the body of 10-year-old jessica ridgeway. it's going to take more time to make the positive identification. crime scene technicians have been there all night long working the scene and we're going to bring you updates an the case as it becomes available. for now back to the studio with megan. tile now for a check of the

a health alert for you on this thursday morning, the cdc says as many as 1500 marylanders now at risk for developing meningitis. so far, there are only newspaper reported cases in the state and -- nine reported stations in the state and -- cases in the state and one

reported death. that batch came from massachusetts and was used to help relieve back pains in patients thousands of people get these shots. now to find the list of the local clinics you can head to the website abc2news.com. on "good morning maryland" at 5:00, we continue following the breaking news that's in baltimore city. >> yeah, we have team coverage on the scene of a deadly house fire and "good morning maryland" at 5:00 begins right now. we have breaking news for you on this thursday morning. a house fire near the thurgood marshall high school killed five people. >> this is going to weigh heavy on your heart this morning. we're talking about four kids ages 1 to 7 and their grandmother. they all died in the house fire and this morning we have team coverage. right now to sherrie johnson. >> reporter: yes, we are here in northeast baltimore where it has been a sad and a chaotic scene. take a look behind me here. you can see firefighters are

still on the scene. they've put the fire out and still working on the hot spots right now. five people were killed in this early morning fire including a grandmother and four children. the fire started about 2:00 this morning at 5601 denwood avenue. again in northeast baltimore. when crews arrived on the scene, they found intense flames and people jumping out of the windows. ten people were actually in the home at the time when the fire started. five made it out safely and five others did not. now the bodies were found on the second floor of the home. police had to detain one man because he was so distraught over his mother's death he was trying to go back inside the home so they had to arrest him put him in handcuffs just to keep him safe. now two firefighters were injured. one firefighter fell from the second floor of the home to the basement and landed on another firefighter. now we are told that they have nonlife-threatening injuries and they're going to be okay. but once again, five people killed. one adult, and four children.

and this morning i have linda so joining me live here. my colleague here. and linda, this has just been a terrible morning: i mean it's been difficult for firefighters. we've seen family members with blankets just beside themselves with grief. >> you can only imagine how difficult this is for the family. we have about two dozen family members who are all standing outside of the home right now. what we've been able to learn about the victims, it was a grandmother, 55-year-old nancy worell we're told. lived in the home. with her husband. her adult children and some grandchildren. the grandmother died in the fire, her four grandchildren who were sleeping upstairs in a bedroom also died. their ages range from 1-year- old, a 1-year-old boy're we're told and a 7-year-old child who went to moravia park elementary school. we're again told all of the victims were sleeping on the second floor. firefighters believe that this

fire started in the basement. when they got here, they found intense flames and the grandfather who actually had to jump from the second floor window to escape those flames. five adults were able to get out but the five other people were not. the grandmother passed away. four other children, their ages range from 1-year-old to 7 years old. the fire chief did come out here this morning. they don't know at this point if there were working smoke detectors in the home and one thing he really wanted to emphasize was if you don't have a working smoke detector in your house, firefighters will come to the home for free and install that. so he wants everyone to make sure and really emphasize that message just to check your fire alarms. they will come out all you have to do is call 311 if you need these installed. but again, it's believed that this fire started in the basement. five people were able to escape and five others were not. they've been identified at 55- year-old nancy wo rell who was

morning. take a look at this. it was a pretty incredible sight if you massed it. firefighters were on hand putting out a huge car fire. the vehicle was fully in flames. right near liberty road that exit right there. no word yet on what caused the fire or whether anyone was hurt but will keep you posted on air and online as well. tonight win or go home. the o's did something last night that they haven't done in more than 162 games. so charlie is at the live desk this morning. and charlie, with this outcome you saw a lot of history even if you didn't like the end story. >> yeah megan you said that 162 games, that is the length of the season. it was something baltimore had not done the entire time and it brought us to where we are tonight. the orioles had not lost a game all season when they had the lead after seven innings and that's where they were last night and this was a great start from miguel gonzalez. two home runs by rookies ryan o'flaherty and manny machado and that gave the orioles the two run lead going into the 9th. closer jim johnson on the mound

and the yankees sent out 40- year-old raul ibanez. pinch hitting for a-rod. and he came up in a big way. a bomb to right. tying the game at 2. then fast forward to the 12th, the o's had won 16 straight extra inning affairs, not to be last night. it was ibanez again an upper deck shot. the bronx bombers they were the winners there. not to pile on like we said. this was something baltimore was in control of for much of the season. 16 straight extra inning games where they were the winner. 18 innings in seattle i watched that game all night. for ibanez he becomes the first player in major league history to hit two home runs in the 9th inning or later in a postseason game. now coming up in about eight minutes, we're going to med back to the bronx and hear from manager buck showalter, megan a lot of people want to know what he has to say about last night. >> absolutely, we'll look forward to that. election news right now, the right to marry the one that you love. we have heard a lot about the issue lately.

news time now 5:23. thank you for joining us on this thursday morning. stroke and its risk factor used to be a condition for older adults, but that's not the case anymore. a new study finds that it afetes people at a youngerage. they report that between the years of 1993 and 2005, the average age of people who experienced strokes fell from the age of 71 to 69. now more people under age 55 are also reporting strokes. researchers believe risk factors include things like
